# Start your first chat

> Ask TulipFarm to do a business task in a new chat. Choose a model, attach files, and approve any proposed changes.

Start a [chat](https://docs.tulipfarm.ai/concepts/chats-and-projects/) to turn a business task into a clear next step. A chat is a conversation with TulipFarm's artificial intelligence (AI).

## Before you start

- [Sign in](https://docs.tulipfarm.ai/getting-started/sign-in/) and open a workspace.

## Send your first message

1. Select **New chat** at the top of the sidebar.

   The page asks **What would you like to get done?**

2. Type your task in the message box.

   For example, type "Create a table for our customers."

3. Optional: Choose a model in the model picker.

   The list shows only the models that your workspace allows.

4. Optional: Select **Attach files** to add files from your device.

   You can attach up to 5 files to one message. Each file can be up to 10 MiB (mebibytes).

5. Select **Send message**, or press Enter.

To stop a reply while TulipFarm writes it, select **Stop reply**.

To use a saved [skill](https://docs.tulipfarm.ai/concepts/agents-skills-and-workflows/), type `/` in the message box. Then choose a skill from the list.

## Approve changes

A chat can propose changes to your data or to outside apps. These changes wait for your [approval](https://docs.tulipfarm.ai/concepts/approvals/). Nothing changes until you approve.

An approval request expires after 24 hours. An approved request is not the same as a completed action.

## Find your chats later

Select **Chats** in the sidebar to see your chats. Personal chats are private to you.

## Credits

Each reply uses [credits](https://docs.tulipfarm.ai/concepts/credits/). The whole workspace shares one balance.

> **Note:** If the chat shows **No models are available. Ask a workspace admin.**, a workspace admin must allow a model for you. See [Credits or models unavailable](https://docs.tulipfarm.ai/troubleshooting/credits-or-models-unavailable/).
