Tables and rows

A table holds one kind of business record, such as customers or invoices. Each row is one record in that table.

A table is a business object you define, such as Customers or Invoices. A row is one record in a table, such as one customer.

Each table has fields. A field is one piece of information about each row, such as a name or a due date.

A field can hold one of these kinds of values:

  • Text
  • A number
  • A date, or a date with a time
  • Yes or no
  • One choice from a list, or several choices from a list
  • A file
  • A link to a row in another table

Each field is required or optional. A table can also have a unique key, so that no two rows have the same value.

You create a table in chat. On the Create a table page, select Create table in chat. Then describe the fields you need.

The chat shows you the exact fields and row changes before anything happens. You approve them first. See Approvals.

To change the fields of a table later, select Change fields in chat.

Item What it is

You can see the same rows in three views:

  • Table
  • Board. This view needs a field that holds one choice from a list.
  • List
  • Text searches the rows for the words you type.
  • Ask AI uses AI to search the rows. Ask AI uses credits.
  • You can export up to 5,000 rows as a comma-separated values (CSV) file. You can also export only the rows you select.

An Admin chooses what each team can do with each table. The permissions are:

  • Manage schema
  • Create rows
  • Read rows
  • Update rows
  • Delete rows

Row permissions apply to all rows in the table.
